Kevin H. Marino founded the firm in 1996, and has extensive experience in white-collar criminal defense, complex civil litigation, SEC regulatory work and internal investigations. Mr. Marino, who is consistently selected by his peers for inclusion in the Best Lawyers in America and was recently named one of New Jersey’s Top 100 Super Lawyers, is best known for the extraordinary results he has achieved, for both corporate entities and individuals, in a broad range of complex commercial and regulatory matters as well as federal and state grand jury investigations.
Mr. Marino received his undergraduate degree magna cum laude in English literature and political science from Drew University and his law degree cum laude from Seton Hall Law School, where he was Editor-in-Chief of the Law Review. Upon graduation from law school, he served as law clerk to the Honorable Maryanne Trump Barry, then a United States District Judge and today a judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. Following his clerkship, Mr. Marino joined Robinson, Wayne, Levin, Riccio & La Sala, a 20-lawyer litigation boutique comprising a host of former federal law clerks who would go on to be counted among the most prominent lawyers and judges in New Jersey, including the Dean of Seton Hall Law School and one of its most highly-regarded law professors. During his tenure at Robinson Wayne, Mr. Marino successfully tried both civil and criminal cases in state and federal court and advised a host of corporations and individuals in a wide variety of matters. He also taught criminal procedure, professional responsibility and legal writing as an adjunct professor at Seton Hall Law School and published an influential law review article, Outrageous Conduct: The Third Circuit’s Treatment of the Due Process Defense, 19 Seton Hall Law Review 606 (1989), articulating a theory of the due process defense later adopted by the Supreme Court of New Jersey in State v. Johnson, 127 N.J. 458 (1992). Following a one-year leave of absence from the firm to serve as Counsel to the Commissioner and Director of Litigation at the Department of the Public Advocate for the State of New Jersey, Mr. Marino was elected a partner of Robinson St. John in December 1992. He withdrew from the partnership to form his present firm in March 1996.
Mr. Marino is a member of the Board of Trustees of Drew University, the Board of Visitors of Seton Hall Law School, the Editorial Board of the New Jersey Lawyer, and the Board of Directors of the Legal Services Corporation of New Jersey; a member and former Trustee of the Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers of New Jersey; and a Director of the United States District Court Historical Society. He is also a past member of the Lawyers Advisory Committee of the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey and the New Jersey Supreme Court Civil Practice Committee. Mr. Marino served as a member of the New Jersey Steering Committee of the Third Circuit Task Force on Counsel for Indigent Litigants in Civil Cases and has served as a member of court-appointed Merit Selection Panels for both the appointment and the reappointment of United States Magistrate Judges. He is the incoming head of the Baseball Boosters at Delbarton School and a former member of the Westfield Baseball Board of Directors.
